Meetings with WIPO, WTO and EPO

In his role as first deputy reporter general of The International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), Jonathan Osha joined the bureau delegation that recently visited the WIPO and the WTO in Geneva and the EPO in Munich.

World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)

The AIPPI delegation met with WIPO in Geneva on Monday, March 26, 2018.  After introductory remarks by Director General Francis Gurry and AIPPI President Hao Ma, collaborative discussions were held on various topics with representatives from the Patents and Technology Sector, the Copyright and Creative Industries Sector, and the Brands and Designs Sector.

World Trade Organization (WTO)

The AIPPI delegation met with Antony Taubman, Director, Intellectual Property, Government Procurement & Competition Division, and other WTO personnel on March 27, 2018, to discuss TRIPS-related matters and opportunities for future collaboration.  In addition to the substance of the discussions, the “labour murals” in the meeting room made quite an impression.  More information on these murals and the other artwork at the WTO building is on WTO’s website.

European Patent Office (EPO)

EPO President Benoît Battistelli hosted the AIPPI delegation headed by President Hao Ma for AIPPI’s visit to Munich on April 19, 2018.  Discussions were held on topics including recent developments at the EPO, the validation agreement with Cambodia, and various strategic objectives.  The EPO’s report on the meeting is available on the EPO’s website.
